David-Link DL-A Biometric Door Access Control System

David-Link Fingerprint USA from City of Industry, Calif., releases the DL-A biometric door access control system, designed for small to medium business applications.
With its color LCD display, the IP-based DL-A terminal can store up to 3,000 fingerprint templates and 60,000 log records. The software included with the system communicates with the terminal via TCP/IP connection within the network or USB download/upload.
The software also allows management of personnel data, assignment of terminals to different doors, entry record report generation, and remote door lock release when connected with the terminal within the network. Multiple wiring methods also enable the terminal to connect with alarm, bell, and different types of locks, according to the company.
IBM released a list of five technologies the companies predicts will become part of everyday life by 2016. Along with mind reading through headsets with sensors and using kinetic energy to heat a home, IBM believes that within the next five years we will replace passwords with biometric data.
According to CBS News, IBM touts that we will no longer need to create, track or remember multiple passwords for various log-ins.
“Imagine you will be able to walk up to an ATM machine to securely withdraw money by simply speaking your name or looking into a tiny sensor that can recognize the unique patterns in the retina of your eye. Or by doing the same, you can check your account balance on your mobile phone or tablet,” CBS News reported. “This is all because of a set of systems that may well be on their way down the pike known as multifactor biometrics. And as a result of our individual faces, voices, and retinas, we may soon be able to access all the things that today require passwords without having to remember anything.”
